With Dean Smith now in post at Aston Villa as Steve Bruce's replacement as manager, fans are speculating as to where Smith may head in terms of recruiting the players he wants in the January transfer window.

One man already being banded around on social media by some Villa fans is Neal Maupay, the 22-year-old striker who worked under Smith at Brentford and is currently the top scorer in the Championship.

But with Villa already awash with attacking options, could a move for Maupay happen?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

It’s certainly a real possibility.

Maupay has been in excellent form this season for Brentford and I’m sure he will be Dean Smith’s number one target after he became Aston Villa boss this week.

The only issue will be the strong competition for places for the striker role in Smith starting XI. With the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia both fighting for one spot each week, Maupay may not get the game time he would whilst at Brentford.

But I’m sure we’ll see Villa tempt him with an offer in January.

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, sadly I can.

I say sadly because all Villa seem to do is spend big money on good forwards and then ruin them.

McCormack, Hogan, Kodjia, need I say more?

They have the attacking players they need right now.

Buy defenders. The advice couldn’t be clearer.

When Dean Smith was announced, it was the first player I thought would be linked with a move to Villa Park.

Aston Villa have the financial backing to be able to pull off a deal and the striker might want to move to a club where his former manager is.

As well as - in his mind- they may now have better prospects of making it to the Premier League over his current club.

It is a move I can definitely see coming off.

George Dagless

I can't.

Dean Smith doesn't seem that sort of manager and Villa have top attacking players anyway.

Maupay is good but Abraham and Kodjia can score similar levels to him and that's what Smith will want to unlock.

Louie Chandler

I can see it happening, but what a pointless move it would be.

Abraham, Kodjia and Hogan are brilliant options already and another striker would add absolutely nothing to their team.

Villa fans have been moaning about their defence all season and rightly so. Focus on that first.
