Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has opened up on the difficult conversations he's having with fringe players as he looks to trim his squad.

The former Derby boss has spoken with several players over their Hull City futures before the squad travelled for their warm-weather training camp in Turkey.

Randell Williams, James Scott, Andy Cannon, and Josh Emmanuel were all left back in the UK with all but Williams playing in a 6-0 thrashing by Fulham's Under-21s on Monday.

Prior to the season getting underway, Cannon, Scott and Emmanuel were not included in Hull's squad list submitted to the EFL at the end of the summer. Their potential departures may not come as too much of a surprise as a result of that, while Williams has also been told he can seek first-team football elsewhere.

There are over 30 players on the trip to Turkey with Rosenior expressing the need to cut the squad to a more manageable level. Of the situation, he told Hull Live: "It's been so difficult, honestly. I sat down with four or five players before we came out to Turkey and none of them have done anything wrong.

"It's a consequence of having a big squad, but I have to do what I feel is the right thing for the football club."

Hull will be hoping they can get the futures of the outgoing players resolved quickly heading into January, while possibly seeing a few more faces leave as Rosenior starts to shape the side in his way.

The Tigers currently sit 20th and will need to have a positive January when it comes to shipping players out and bringing one or two in if they are to climb the Championship table.

The Verdict

It's a needed move that Rosenior needs to make. Having a large squad has its benefits but when you can only use a selected number of them, the situation becomes hard.

The players already mentioned will likely have been departing anyway, but it would be a surprise if Rosenior didn't move several more on outside of the players mentioned. The club recruited heavily in the summer, and perhaps it was quantity over quality with some of them.

So, with that in mind, a few players who were recruited recently could also find themselves on the way out.
