With Dean Smith now in place at Villa Park, there is a chance for the players to impress the new man in charge and try and forge a place in the playing squad.

For midfielder Henri Lansbury though, it looks like normal service being resumed as he struggles to make his mark in the Smith's first team squad, having been an unused substitute for former manager Steve Bruce.

So what's the overall verdict on Lansbury's time at Villa?

We discuss.....

It's been shocking.

He’s never made the impression that they hoped he would and that doesn’t seem to be altering under Dean Smith.

I’d imagine his days in claret and blue are nearing an end.

Shame, he’s a talented boy on his day.

Jacob Potter

The forgotten Villa man made a positive start to his time at Aston Villa as he made 35 starts for the club.

But his decline has been evident, and having made just six starts last season, he is yet to make an appearance in this seasons squad and his time at the club is surely over with the January transfer window edging closer.

Lansbury arrived as a massively important player for Villa after his move from Forest, but he just hasn’t made an impact at Villa Park.

I remember he scored the winner at Elland Road against Leeds last year and everyone thought that would kickstart his Villa career, but it just hasn’t happened for him.
