Sheffield Wednesday saw their slim chances of making the top six come to an end this weekend as Leeds United saw them off at Elland Road.

The Owls have been in fine form since Steve Bruce took over the reins at Hillsborough, and many are expecting the club to do just fine next season once Bruce has had a full summer and time to reshape his squad as he sees fit.

Wednesday have some fine players in their ranks it has to be said, with the likes of Barry Bannan and Gary Hooper good enough for most teams in the Championship, while the returning Kieran Westwood has been a huge boost to proceedings since Jos Luhukay was replaced with Bruce.

However, one man who might not be sitting in the Owls squad next season is 29-year-old striker Atdhe Nuhiu, who has had his moments in an Owls shirt but has never quite shown the quality to suggest he is going to be a consistent star in S6.

Signed in 2013, Nuhiu has become a bit of a cult hero among Owls fans in recent seasons, but in all seriousness, if they are to challenge for the top six or promotion, then Nuhiu isn't the sort of striker who is going to fire them to that objective.

Big in stature and heart he may be, but his quality can often let him down, although he has indeed had some fine moments of quality in the blue and white shirt it has to be mentioned.

Cult heroes can only last so long though at any club, and while it's been quite the ride for a player termed 'Big Dave' by many Owls fans, his time has surely come now Bruce is in charge of the club.

Wednesday will be disappointed by yesterday's result at Elland Road, but Bruce will be impressed enough with what he has seen so far during his tenure. It's just a shame for Nuhiu that there's a big chance he might not be part of the future under Bruce at Hillsborough.
