Preston North End have had an inspired start to the season, with Alex Neil's side sitting in fifth place in the Championship, just three points off leaders Leeds United, ahead of the weekend trip to Birmingham City.

Despite this fine form one player who has somewhat struggled to stamp his name on a starting XI berth at Deepdale is Aston Villa winger Andre Green, who moved to the club in the summer on a season-long loan, and so far has only managed five appearances in all competitions.

So how can Green's start to life at Preston be best summed up?

We discuss........

Sam Rourke

"It's been fairly disappointing.

"It is of course early days for Green at Preston, but he's got plenty of competition for a starting berth at Deepdale with the likes of Tom Barkhuizen, Josh Harrop, Billy Bodin amd Sean Maguire competing for similar roles in Alex Neil's side.

"He's not started in the league yet for Preston, though has notched two starts in the League Cup, scoring in one of them as Preston beat Bradford 4-0 at Valley Parade, his only appearances in the league being three appearances off the bench.

"We have seen at Portsmouth last season and Aston Villa that he has the capabilities of being a dangerous winger, with his pace, guile and dribbling abilities all strong aspects of his game.

"However it just seems his final product and consistency is an issue at the moment, and this is perhaps why Alex Neil is giving him cameo displays at the in these early stages of the season.

"It must be said though, that there is no reason why Green cannot grow into the season at Preston and become an influential figure in the team."

Chris Gallagher

"Hugely underwhelming.

"I had high hopes for Green when he made the move as he has the physicality and the technique to really stand out in the Championship.

"But, it hasn't gone to plan so far and three sub appearances this season is a concern for the player.

"Clearly, he needs to do more in training and he needs to take any chances that come his way on the pitch but that could be difficult given how North End are performing right now.

"He can still come good but patience will be required."

George Brooks

"Preston have made a promising start to the new season in the Championship, although you imagine that Andre Green will be a bit disappointed with his early-season performances.

"The winger arrived at Deepdale with a big reputation, and he'll be determined to make an impact and prove that he deserves another chance at Aston Villa.

"However, things haven't worked out for him so far, with all of his appearances coming from the bench. His performances haven't been that encouraging either and he's struggled to make an impact in games.

"He's a good player though and he'll be determined to put the work in on the training pitch and convince Alex Neil to give him more opportunities in the team."
