Millwall have confirmed on the club website the departure of 29-year-old midfielder Jem Karacan after just six appearances for the Lions this season.
Karacan signed a short-term deal at the New Den in the summer, but failed to tie down a regular spot in Neil Harris’ side, with his only two starts coming in League Cup fixtures.
So is it surprising Karacan has left Millwall?
“It’s far from surprising.
“Karacan has something to offer the right club but they might now be in League One rather than the Championship.
“The midfielder didn’t feature much for Millwall and so I think this makes sense for all involved.”
“Harris went all out to get him pursued him relentlessly then finds out he’s not good enough.
“It’s an own goal for Millwall isn’t it?
“He’s not good enough and there’s not a first team spot for him, but still, bit embarrassing for Harris.”
“This relationship has come to a natural conclusion.
“Karacan was at The Den to fill a gap and be a stopgap when midfield options were thin on the ground earlier on in the season.
“And with Ben Thompson arriving back at the club from his loan spell at Portsmouth, it makes his presence at the club surplus to requirements.
“His deal was only until the middle of January, and with that time elapsed and a whole host of options in the midfield, he is free to leave and look for a new club.”
