Aston Villa have taken a firm stance over their FA Cup third-round tie against Swansea City by rejecting the opportunity to have the tie shown on TV, so as to keep the match at the traditional slot of Saturday afternoon at 3pm, according to the My Old Man Said blog.

With only 10 of the 32 third-round ties remaining in the 3pm Saturday slot, Villa are supposed to have turned down the offer from BBC Wales to televise the match.

So should Villa be applauded for the stance they have taken over this match?

We discuss.....

It’s great to see from Villa.

Too many clubs are getting greedy with TV money and this was a little statement from a big EFL club.

Hopefully others will start to follow in the future.

It’s an interesting move, one that’s bound to delight the fans of course.

It’s a PR move that will make the news, besides the third round of the cup shouldn’t be about Villa.

Nor should it be about Manchester United and Reading though.

That money, peanuts in terms of the Championship, would be huge for a lower division club.

More power to them!

Other clubs should do the same and not be swayed by the money that the game is awash with.

I am old fashioned in my belief that the FA CUP third round weekend is scared and all games should be 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, but I am not naïve enough to think they will be.

Television dictates these days as money talks, and for Villa to reject that, it shows that clubs can still put their fans first.

This will be a breath of fresh air for Villa fans.

Saturday 3pm is when football should be played - it always has been and always will be.

Fair play to Villa for doing this.
