It has been confirmed on the Tykes' club website that Barnsley have signed Portuguese winger Elliot Simoes from FC United of Manchester for an undisclosed fee, with the 19-year-old joining Daniel Stendel's side on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Simoes, 19, spent time with at Benfica and Sporting Lisbon before moving to Manchester in his early teens.

So is Simoes a good signing for Barnsley?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"This could be an excellent bit of business for the Tykes.

"Simoes has been hugely impressive at non-league level and there will be questions as to whether he can cut it at League One, but I believe he can.

"If he can hit the ground running, then Barnsley could have found the player to provide the attacking spark they have been missing at times this season."

Chris Gallagher

"It's an exciting signing.

"There are quality players down the leagues and it's good to see Barnsley are giving him an opportunity.

"He might take time to settle but I think he will be able to handle the step up."

Jay Taylor

“Only time will tell with this one, but given the length of contract given, Barnsley like what they see and have plenty of faith in the 19-year-old developing.

“It’ a gamble, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s a relatively inexpensive one, and if it pays off then it looks like a shrewd move.

“I think this will turn out to be a good signing, once he has adapted to live in League One.”
