Brentford midfielder, Romaine Saywers continues to be linked with a move to Scottish giants, Celtic before the new season gets underway.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Bees have rejected a bid in the region of £1.5m, and value the 27-year-old at £2.5m, although it remains to be seen as to whether Neil Lennon's side is willing to improve their offer.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we look into this potential deal in more detail.

Firstly, how good has Sawyers been at Brentford?

"Sawyers made 42 league appearances for Brentford last season in total, and although he didn't score once for the Bees, he certainly made a notable contribution to the team.

"He assisted on six occasions and will be hoping to hit the ground running at the start of next season, whether that be at Brentford or with Celtic.

"He's a player that provides energy and creativity from midfield, and that is exactly what Celtic could benefit from if they were to land his signature."

Is he worth the £2.5m fee being quoted?

"In today's market, the price that Brentford reportedly want for him, it's an absolute bargain.

"Sawyers has been a key player for the Bees since he signed from Walsall, and is the sort of player that Brentford should be building their team for next season around.

"I think he's worth far more than that, although their asking price might have been lowered due to Sawyers' current deal with the club expiring at the end of next season.

"Celtic should definitely accept their demands for the midfielder."

Would he be a good signing for Celtic?

"He'd be a gamble, but it's one that could pay off if he hits the ground running.

"Sawyers has really impressed me in recent years, and his rise up the Football League ladder has been there for all to see.

"He doesn't have any experience of playing at the very top level, so Celtic will be cautious of that, but I think he'd suit them perfectly.

"The Bhoys need strength in depth in midfield, and Sawyers would certainly provide them with that."

What are the chances of him staying at Brentford?

"There's still a good chance he'll stay with Thomas Frank's side heading into next season.

"Brentford have kept much of the core group of their squad together, which will be encouraging to see for the club's supporters.

"They've also signed Pontus Jansson recently, which was a real coup for the Bees, and it's a sign of the ambition that they're showing as they target promotion into the Premier League.

"Sawyers could be tempted to give Brentford one more season, before departing in favour of a move to Celtic."

Will he have had his head turned by Celtic's reported interest?

"As a player, you're always going to want to pursue your career going forward.

"Sawyers will obviously be thinking about the prospect of potentially playing in the Champions League with Neil Lennon's side next season, so his head surely would have been turned.

"But until Celtic are to match Brentford's valuation on him, Sawyers strikes me as the sort of player that will remain grounded and focused on the task at hand with the Bees in pre-season."

How should Brentford fans be feeling about this rumour?

"They'll be keen to see the back of this transfer window, that's for sure!

"Sawyers has been a key member of their squad, and he'd leave a sizeable void in the centre of midfield if he was to depart, so Brentford supporters will be hoping the club can do everything they can to convince him to stay with them.

"I fear that they're fighting a losing battle though, as they're seemingly resigned to losing him, after asking for just £2.5m from Celtic to sign him.

"A nervy few weeks await the Griffin Park faithful."
