Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is slowly putting together a squad he feels is capable of mounting a serious challenge for Premier League football, and as the start of the season draws ever closer, the Dane will begin to put the final touches on his ambitious project.

Bolstering his back line has become the next challenge to hurdle, and following the acquisition of young Everton starlet Matthew Pennington on a season long loan deal, many will feel the Whites need one more quality addition to the defensive unit before the squad are ready for the new campaign.

Leeds United are showing serious ambition this year, and why not see this project through by making an attempt to bring QPR defender Steven Caulker to Elland Road?

The club are in a much more stable financial position than they have been in recent years, and with QPR desperate to get the defender off the books, Christiansen may be able to negotiate a reasonable deal for the one time England international.

Celtic have been strongly linked with the player in recent days, but if Christiansen could pull a deal off, he would be sending a serious message to the club’s promotion rivals.

Caulker is a quality defender who would slot into many top flight side’s, and would surely prefer to remain in England as opposed to heading north of the border.

If a deal to bring the London born defender to Yorkshire were to materialise, then Caulker would have to reign in his wage demands, but Leeds could seriously have the potential to afford the player the opportunity to play Premier League football again.

A deal is unlikely with Celtic circling, but Christiansen could even consider a loan offer for the former Cardiff man, who would massively improve the quality of the squad at Elland Road.
