Leeds United are unbeaten so far this season with four points from six in the Championship coupled with a 3-0 first round victory in the Carabao Cup against Salford City, form that will surely be pleasing to manager Marcelo Bielsa.

For new Whites loan striker Eddie Nketiah, the cup match at Salford provided a first team debut that also brought his first goal for the club, but it would seem that Bielsa intends to stick with striker Patrick Bamford when they return to league action this weekend, as he confirmed via the club website.

So is Bielsa right to stick with Bamford or should Nketiah be given a start in the league?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"It's absolutely the right decision.

"What Bielsa really needs right now is some strong competition for places in attack and that is what holding Nketiah back for now will inspire.

"He has not done enough to warrant a starting spot so I am not sure it will have sent the right message to Bamford and the rest of the spot had he gone straight into a Championship match.

"I am sure he will become a great asset for the Whites but he needs to be introduced correctly."

Kealan Hughes

"It is understandable for two reasons; Patrick Bamford is playing well and Nketiah is still adjusting to his new surroundings and the squad.

That means he is still adapting to Bielsa's style of play and what is expected of him on and off the ball, which will be a lot different to what he has previously experienced, and as a young player it could take a while for him to get used to.

"He has also never played regularly at senior level so is best suited to slowly being bedded in, where he can get used to the physicality and intensity by coming off the bench - where his pace will also make him more of a threat.

"Bamford doesn't deserve to be dropped and starting regularly is very important for him as he was in and out of the team last season. Starting regularly should help him to find his best form and if they can get him scoring goals he will be a huge asset."

Alfie Burns

“Despite Bamford’s lack of form in-front of goal, this seems like the logical choice from Bielsa.

“Nketiah will still be getting used to Leeds’ patterns of play and bedding in, so there’s no need to lump big responsibility on him just yet – that will come later in the season.

“Axing Bamford now wouldn’t be the right decision either, he’s a confidence player and needs an arm round him, clearly.

“There’s a good player in there, and Bielsa will have full faith in him to do the business at Wigan on Saturday.”
