Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka heads into tonight's fixture with local rivals Derby County, just two points outside the play-off places, looking for a win that would allow them to leap-frog Middlesbrough and end the night level on points with tonight's opponents.

Karanka though continues to have a tough job on his hands, as he looks to manage one of the largest squads in the Championship, but according to reports in the Sun on Sunday (16 December, Page 59) Karanka may be prepared to let youngster Arvin Appiah leave in the January window.

Forest seem prepared to let the England youth international leave if they receive a bid of £6m, is that good business or should they keep him?

Why would they even consider selling him, he’s only 17 and is an England youth international.

It’s ludicrous to consider writing him off at such a young age – regardless of the prospective funds involved.

Nottingham Forest should be keeping Arvin Appiah, and nurturing him to improve.

Keep him, is what I say, they might regret letting him go.

It’s another of those moments that makes me wonder about Karanka and Forest.

They’ve been quick to sell off the crown jewels in the past, haven’t they? Burke and Brereton spring to mind, with Ryan Yates another on the cusp of a move.

What is the point in developing young players if this happens?

It’s odd.

If Appiah departs, following Ben Brereton’s departure, it shows how short-sighted Forest’s approach has become.

The Reds are selling off great young players and sacrificing what could be a great future for the club.

It’s a tad worrying.
