Steve Bruce is only a few days away from officially taking over the managerial reins at Sheffield Wednesday, but that has not stopped the club making waves in the transfer market with The Star reporting that striker Sam Winnall is free to leave on loan before the transfer window closes.

Winnall, 28, has only made four appearances in all competitions for the Owls so far this season, all of those coming from the bench and after falling down the pecking order at Hillsborough, a move away could be the only option to secure regular first team football.

So are Wednesday right to let Winnall leave on loan?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“If he’s not playing for the Owls, then there’s little point in him being there.

“His needs are best served out on loan, as are the club’s.

“What’s the worst that happens? He flops? Then they’re back to square one.

“Otherwise he thrives and they get a better player back.”

Jacob Potter

"It’s a stupid decision.

"Winnall hasn’t been given a fair chance in this Sheffield Wednesday side and can certainly feel hard done by.

"A loan move elsewhere will give him the chance to find regular game time, but he’ll be hugely frustrated having not been given a fair chance in the Owls XI on his return from injury."

Jay Taylor

“I am unsure if it is or not.

“Wednesday aren’t flushed with cash and need to offload to balance the books, that I understand.

“But Winnall is a goal scorer, and the Owls will need goals to keep them away from the danger zone.

“It doesn’t make sense to me.”
