Aston Villa are keeping close tabs on Chelsea forward Martell Taylor-Crossdale, with a view to signing him on a permanent transfer in the summer.

Football Insider are reporting that Villa are interested in signing the 19-year-old, who has a prolific scoring record for the Chelsea Under-18s and has been capped by England at youth level.

The report states that a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are interested in signing the centre-forward, who is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Villa are hoping to that Taylor-Crossdale can follow in the footsteps of Tammy Abraham, who has scored 25 Championship goals for Villa while on loan from Chelsea this season.

So, would Taylor-Crossdale be a good signing for Aston Villa? We discuss...

George Harbey

"I think this would be a smart move from Villa - he certainly looks to be a good player on paper.

"The youngster is bound to full of confidence after such an impressive season, but on a free transfer, it’s surely worth a shot.

"I’m sure Villa fans would be wanting their side to sign another striker from Chelsea this summer, but this one would do, too."

Jacob Potter

"It's a smart bit of business.

"Taylor-Crossdale has age on his side, and has a point to prove in senior football and could thrive in this Villa side.

"If he's given the game time he needs to develop, then the Villans could have a serious talent on their hands, that's for sure."

Toby Wilding

"Villa have had plenty of success this season with Chelsea forwards, so you can see their thinking behind this one.
"I don't think Taylor-Crossdale would have quite as immediate an impact as Tammy Abraham, but he wouldn't need to if the move is to be permanent.
"This could be one to watch for the future."

George Brooks

"Taylor-Crossdale is an exciting young player with a lot of potential, he could be a great signing for Villa.

"He already has a prolific goal scoring record the Chelsea Under-18s and at just 19, his best years are ahead of him.

"He is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer, so it would be even better if Villa could get him on a free transfer."
