Nottingham Forest have completed their first signing of the January transfer window, with the club confirming the arrival of Adama Diakhaby on a season-long deal from Huddersfield Town.

The winger has found game time hard to come by at the John Smith's Stadium this season, and has now completed a move away from West Yorkshire to join promotion-chasing Forest.

The Reds have had to be patient when it has come to bringing in players, but after confirming their first arrival of the window, Sabri Lamouchi will be hopeful of adding more players to his squad.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey talks Forest's latest transfer dealing in today's six-pointer...

Firstly, how did Diakhaby end up at Forest?

"Diakhaby signed for Huddersfield from AS Monaco last summer, making only 12 league appearances as the Terriers were relegated from the Premier League last term.

"This season, Diakhaby started off as a key player under Jan Siewert, but fell out of favour when Danny Cowley was appointed as their new manager.

"The 23-year-old has made 18 appearances in the Championship this season, but only nine of those have come from the off.

"Subsequently, Diakhaby now finds himself at the City Ground, as he hopes to help Forest push for promotion to the top-flight."

What are his best attributes?

"The thing you'll notice about Diakhaby, first and foremost, is his pace.

"He's 6-foot-1 and is a tall, strong, powerful winger who possesses so much speed for a player of his size.

"His direct-running and ability to fly past defenders makes him a perfect wide-man in Lamouchi's system, and his ability to play on either flank also makes him a very useful option indeed."

Is he any different to the wingers Forest already have?

"He's certainly a very different player to Joe Lolley and is more like Sammy Ameobi in the way that he plays.

"Lolley is at his best when he cuts in from the right and jinks onto his favoured left foot - he showed just how dangerous he can be when doing so against Luton at the weekend.

"Ameobi, meanwhile, is a winger who takes on his man and loves to get to the byline to deliver crosses into the box, and that is what Diakhaby will look to do regardless of which side he plays on.

"In my opinion, he is a lot faster and more direct than the wingers Forest already have at the club, but that's not to say that he won't cut inside it and change up his game a little."

Do you reckon he will be a regular starter for Forest?

"It's possible, but I don't think Sabri Lamouchi is the type of manager who names a team and sticks with it - he always tends to make changes every other game regardless of results.

"Forest already have the likes of Joe Lolley, Albert Adomah and Sammy Ameobi on their books, and all three of those players have been impressive this term and have hardly put a foot wrong.

"Diakhaby will have to work hard to get into the team - Eddie Nketiah proved at Leeds that even though you're coming in on loan, game time isn't a guarantee and you need to work hard for the shirt.

"There has been talk about Diakhaby potentially being used as a striker for the Reds, but I can't see that happening. He will be used primarily as a winger during his time at the City Ground, in my view."

Finally, what are your overall thoughts on this arrival?

"I think it's a shrewd piece of business by the club - Diakhaby is exactly the type of winger they need.

"They need someone who can come in and freshen up the team a little - at this stage of the season, that's beneficial as it can tend to lift players.

"Fans may roll their eyes at this deal due to Huddersfield's position in the league and the amount of starts Diakhaby has made this season, but those fans are also the ones who may have doubted the signings of Samba Sow and Brice Samba in the summer."

Where should Forest look to strengthen next?

"Up top. No question about it at all. It's make or break for them whether they can sign a striker or not.

"Lewis Grabban has been in exceptional form this season and he scored his 15th goal of the season at the weekend, but they do not have anyone for cover if he gets injured.

"They need to focus fully on bringing in another striker now they have a winger ticked off their list - that has to be the priority, otherwise they could get left behind in the race for promotion."
