Bristol Rovers have parted company with manager Darrell Clarke by mutual consent after fours years at the helm at the Memorial Stadium.

Rovers have lost seven of their past 10 games in all competitions and are 21st in League One four points from safety, but after Saturday's loss to Doncaster, the 40-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol he was "under-achieving as a manager" and that they were "going backwards".

Coach Graham Coughlan will take interim charge for Saturday's game at Sunderland as assistant manager Marcus Stewart has also left by mutual consent.

So were Bristol Rovers right to sack Darrell Clarke?

You could argue it was still a little too soon considering Bristol Rovers are only a few points from safety.

But then again you look at it and think they have time to get a new man in ahead of the transfer window.

It’s sacking season with teams panicking and looking to make a change ahead of what is set to be a crucial month for every, and all clubs in the EFL.

George Harbey

They were right to sack him unfortunately.

Clarke has been a great servant for Rovers, taking them from non-league to League One, but his time was up.

They have endured a dismal start to the season and they need things to change.

Gary Hutchinson

No, absolutely not.

He’s had four months where he’s struggled, on the back of four years of success.

It’s a short-sighted move and it isn’t popular with Gasheads either.

They should have kept faith; the talent is there to get out of trouble.
