Danish defender Jonas Knudsen has bid a fond farewell to Portman Road following his release from the club.

The 26-year-old has been with the Tractor Boys for four seasons, racking up 155 outings, but relegation to League One has seen him released.

The full back posted a heartfelt goodbye on Instagram, explaining how he didn't envisage his Ipswich career ending in this way. He does predict the club 'rising again' and gives his thanks for his time in Suffolk.

"As my time at Ipswich Town has now come to an end I would like to thank everyone in and around the club for the last four years. My family and I have enjoyed our time here in town!

"Unfortunately it did not end as I had hoped last season but I’m confident that the club will rise again. The fans are amazing and have supported us through all times both away and at Portman Road which I am amazed and really grateful about! I wish all the best for the club in the future."

Knudsen began his career Esbjerg fB in Denmark, where he rose to prominence as an attacking full back, gaining international honours up to Under 20 level with Denmark.

That progression continues when he signed for Ipswich, where he won Under 21 caps and finally six full international caps. In total, he made 148 Championship appearances under Mick McCarthy, but is not required by current manager Paul Lambert.

Having also posted his farewell on Twitter, supporters have been offering their opinions on his tenure at Portman Road, as you can read below.
