West Brom manager Slaven Bilic will be happy to see his side back on top of the Championship but that has not stopped him adding to his ranks, with the deadline-day signing of Lee Peltier from Cardiff City on a free transfer until the end of the season, as confirmed on the Baggies official club website.

The experienced 33-year-old defender will bolster Bilić’s defensive cover with his ability of being able to play across all positions in the back-line.

Sporting and Technical Director Luke Dowling said: “Lee will provide tough, proven experience and ‘know-how’ for us across a variety of roles in defence," adding “We felt we needed some cover and once we knew Lee would be available it made good sense to bring him in.”

So is Peltier a good fit at the Hawthorns and will he be a frequent starter?

"This move could prove to be a good one for the Baggies, considering Peltier's experience of the league, and that he was highly thought of at Cardiff City.

"The right-back has played a total of 270 Championship games over the course of his career, and his experience and know-how will be a good thing to add to the West Brom dressing room.

"Slaven Bilic initially moved for Peltier to counteract Nathan Ferguson's potential departure, which then did not materialise. However, the 33-year-old will now be able to provide adequate cover for the team.

"The issue here, though, is that Peltier may not have the chance to start regularly at right-back ahead of Darnell Furlong."

“I think it’s a savvy signing to help with adding experience to the side with regards to the promotion run-in.

“Peltier won’t play regularly for the Baggies this season as Darnell Furlong has been solid at both ends of the pitch, demonstrating great qualities for a ‘modern’ full-back.

“With West Brom’s promotion push not seeing them break away as swiftly as many thought, they need to be showing a lot of character to get that back on track and adding in Peltier would help.

“While he might not have the quality to improve Slaven Bilic’s lineup, Peltier will help a lot with their mentality going into the high-intensity nature of the latter stages of the season.”

Louie Chandler

"I think this is a really smart signing from Slaven Bilic.

"Peltier is as professional as they come in the terms of Championship quality full-backs and that professionalism could be crucial during the run-in.

"He has recent experience of winning promotion with the Bluebirds as well so will likely have a calm head as we enter the business end of the season.

"I imagine he will be rotated in and out of the starting XI with Darnell Furlong, depending on whether Bilic wants a greater emphasis on attack or defence."
