Millwall manager Gary Rowett has raided one of his former clubs, with the Lions sealing a loan deal with Stoke City for midfielder Ryan Woods.

Woods, 26, worked under the now-Millwall boss Gary Rowett at the Bet365 Stadium and reunites with him in London, after the Staffordshire-born midfielder has struggled to hit the ground running since joining Stoke from Brentford in August 2018.

So is Woods a good addition at the Den, is he needed and do you feel he will start regularly?

We discuss.........

Ned Holmes

"I think the addition of Woods looks a really interesting one for Millwall, as he is someone that would add some quality to their squad.

"The 26-year-old has struggled for opportunities for the Potters this season but he has proven his quality in the Championship with Stoke and particularly Brentford in recent years.

"Under Gary Rowett, Millwall have moved close to the top six and Woods is exactly the sort of player the Lions should be looking to add to aid their promotion push.

"The midfielder will add some more strength in depth for what looks set to be a testing end of the season.

"Given their form over the last few months, you'd imagine Rowett will be loyal to his current squad but that's not to say Woods can't break in with some good performances from the bench."

Kris Smith

“Having signed Woods for Stoke City in the first place, Rowett is clearly a big admirer of Woods’ and could offer him a way out of Stoke which hasn’t been the kindest move to him.

“Based on form alone, I doubt Woods would start for Millwall, given that he has featured just eight times this season in the league for the Potters who are in a much worse position than Rowett’s current side.

“Millwall are in a rich vein of form at the minute and this is largely down to their continuity in the side so while Woods has the ability to walk into most sides in the league, he’d have a job on his hands to prove he should be in Rowett’s starting lineup.

“He was arguably one of the best in his position during his time at Brentford and that is what caught Rowett’s eye, but his current form asks a lot of questions over whether he would be the answer in the midfield with genuine aspirations of the play-offs."

Phil Spencer

“This is an excellent signing.

“Things haven’t quite worked out for Ryan Woods at Stoke City, and while that’s bound to be disappointing for the player, you don’t become a bad player overnight.

“What we saw during his time at Shrewsbury and Brentford was a player who was not only comfortable on the ball, but also had a real tenacity and leadership which was infectious to his teammates.

“If you can find me two skills which are more suited to Millwall Football Club then I’ll eat my hat.

“Woods has plenty to offer at Championship level, it's a real coup for the Bermondsey boys.”
