Whilst Leeds United left Swansea last night delighted to have a point under their belt, it will have felt bittersweet for Kalvin Phillips, who was substituted after just 28 minutes.

The 22-year-old has been impressive so far this season for Leeds, but last night, on his 100th Leeds appearance, Phillips was off the pace and struggled to deal with Bersant Celina’s energy.

Marcelo Bielsa was quick to replace him with Lewis Baker, with Leeds improving from then.

Our writers discuss the midfielder’s difficult evening…

Fair play to Bielsa for making such a change.

Few managers would be as bold as him to make the call but he could see things weren't working and made the decision.

Phillips has started this season well and will be eager to get back to that level after a tough night.

Gary Hutchinson

Bielsa clearly doesn't accept failure and this was the first glimpse of that unpredictable side we know him to have.

Phillips wasn't playing well and the manager acted. There's no mystery to it, some managers wouldn't have done it, but he did.

It paid off too, but what affect on the player? You'd like to think there would be little, he's a professional and has to take the rough with the smooth.

Good managers make big decisions and so it proved last night.

Chris Gallagher

You can't say anything other than he was awful last night.

In fairness, it's a one-off for Phillips this season but he was poor in possession, off the ball and was booked with Swansea running riot for the first half hour last night.

Marcelo Bielsa deserves credit for making the change as the game swung in Leeds' favour after that. It may have seemed harsh but it needed to be done.

Louie Chandler

It was a poor performance from Phillips, and it was a shame it came on his 100th appearance, but it is far from the end of the world.

He has been impressive in that midfield role in the first three games, so to discount him now would be ridiculous.

On another note, it will be very encouraging to Leeds fans to see that Bielsa is not scared to change his approach in a game when it is needed, whatever the time.
