Peterborough United are leading the race to sign Lincoln City midfielder Jorge Grant, according to Football Insider.

Grant was influential for Lincoln as they narrowly missed out on promotion last season, scoring 17 goals and adding 13 assists in all competitions.

But the 26-year-old looks set to leave the club after a two-year stay, with a clause in his contract allowing him to depart for the Championship after failing to win promotion.

According to Football Insider, it's newly-promoted Peterborough United who are in pole position to land Grant, having worked on signing the playmaker since winning promotion.

Here, we discuss this potential signing for Posh...

This could turn out to be a really smart addition for Peterborough United this summer.

Lincoln City will surely know that they're facing a losing battle to keep Grant at the club heading into the new season, as he's a player that deserves a shot at playing at a higher level than League One.

Peterborough United are going to need additional depth heading into the 2021/22 campaign, and Grant would be a great signing for them.

He's already shown he can perform to a high standard in the third tier, and having netted 17 goals, and been on hand to provide 13 assists for the Imps last season, it's a no-brainer for Peterborough to target a player of his quality.

He could take Posh to the next level if he can hit the ground running in the Championship next season.

This would be a perfect potential signing for Peterborough to make this summer ahead of their return to the Championship. Jorge Grant is a player that needs to be playing in the English second tier now and having missed out on promotion with Lincoln City he deserves the chance to make a move away from the Imps.

Grant’s ability to influence games in the final third with his quality is obvious and he managed to fire in 13 goals and provide nine assists last term in the third tier. The 26-year-old has matured into an excellent player that makes the right decisions when in possession more times than not and he would be able to make the step up to the Championship.

Peterborough often manage to bring in talented players like Grant and bring their games to another level and it is easy to see that happening again with this potential signing. In another year’s time if he has had a good season in the Championship his value will be far greater than what the Posh are going to be required to pay.

For me, this would be a no-brainer and I would be doing all I can to bring in Grant this summer. He could be the sort of player they need to have a real go at the English second tier.

Chris Thorpe

What a signing this would be for Posh if they can pull it off this summer.

Grant was in outstanding form for Lincoln City last term and bagged an astonishing 17 goals and nine assists from midfield - some great numbers from that area of the pitch.

He would ideally play in the same role that Sammie Szmodics has taken on since moving to Peterborough and will act as a shadow striker.

He certainly has the quality to be a real hit in the Sky Bet Championship and it’s fair to say that many will trust the judgement of Barry Fry and Darren Ferguson when it comes to bringing new players to London Road.

If he can hit the same sort of form that he did at Sincil Bank last term, he will be a massive hit for Posh and could really propel them to a mid table finish next season.
