Huddersfield Town travel to Blackburn Rovers this weekend, with manager Danny Cowley looking to extend the three match unbeaten run that has seen the Terriers climb out of the relegation zone.

Ahead of the trip to Ewood Park, Cowley has come out and suggested that he may look to trim his playing squad, highlighting that he prefers to operate with a smaller squad than the one he has inherited at the John Smith's Stadium, as reported on Examiner Live.

So is Cowley right to be looking to trim his playing squad?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"It's a no brainer and simply must happen.

"He has realised very quickly that there are too many players not doing enough at Huddersfield, so it's good that he wants to change it.

"One of Cowley's strengths will be how he unites the dressing room and to do that you need a tight-knit squad, not one where people are sulking because they're miles away from the team.

"So, he has to be ruthless in the coming windows to ensure he is working with the number he wants. You can imagine it's going to be a very busy time at Huddersfield but fans should be excited about the direction they are heading in, and it will be interesting to see where they are this time next year."

Liam Drury

"Current Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley hasn't been with the Terriers for long, but is already making a statement as he looks to trim the first-team squad up in Yorkshire.

"However, Cowley's decision to trim the squad that he's inherited up north is sure to be the right idea. It means that the former Lincoln City manager is making sure that the Huddersfield side buck their ideas up and really start to fight for their place in the Huddersfield squad with the January transfer window approaching.

"However, Cowley needs to watch just how many players he attempts to cull midway through the season as it could leave the 40 year-old manager with an even bigger task on his hand as to just how many he has to bring in.

"A warning shot however has been fired out to the entire Huddersfield squad, and no places are safe as Cowley continues to assess the entire Huddersfield squad during the early stages of his tenure."

Jordan Rushworth

"Danny Cowley will need to be supported by the club’s board whatever he decides to do in the next few transfer windows, with Huddersfield carrying a number of players from their stint in the Premier League that will be on high wages and might not be in his plans.

"The Terriers boss would be right to trim some of those players of the wage bill, and he will be used to working with a much smaller and tighter unit during his time at Lincoln City, so that is something that he will be wanting to replicate at Huddersfield.

"Given the excellent team spirit that he managed to create at Lincoln, it would be a hugely important thing if he could create a similar sort of small squad at Huddersfield and get the same type of atmosphere going in the dressing room.

"Huddersfield is a club that has been on a downward spiral over the last year, and sometimes the only way to solve that, is to get rid of some of the players whose confidence can not be picked back up – and I’m sure Cowley will manage to get the balance right between getting rid of just enough players without leaving the squad too thin."
