Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa continued his policy of using on-loan Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah from the substitutes bench, when the 20-year-old came off the bench to score the late goal that salvaged a point against Preston mid-week.

Ahead of the Whites' trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday lunchtime, former Gunners striker Ian Wright has taken to Twitter, to urge Bielsa to give Nketiah a start in the clash at Hillsborough this weekend.

So should Nketiah be given a start against the Owls at the weekend?

"It should be, but Bielsa does come across as stubborn on certain things.

"If we're honest, it should have happened weeks ago. It's all well and good saying Bamford is offering the team a lot when he plays off the ball but strikers are judged on goals.

"Leeds create chance after chance so they don't need a striker who runs the channels or links play superbly, they need a goalscorer - like Nketiah.

"Logically you would say that he's nailed on to start this weekend but you just never know with Bielsa but like Wright and the vast majority of Leeds fans, I would have the Arsenal loanee in for his first start."

Kris Smith

“Yes, it’s a must now for Nketiah to start over Bamford after his goal salvaged a draw for Leeds against Preston.

“While Bamford’s all-round play as a lone striker is worthy of starting, his lack of goals of late is alarming for Leeds, who need a confident goal-scorer in top form if they are to push for automatic promotion.

“During the Preston game, Nketiah’s introduction brought jubilation from fans after another glut of missed chances from Bamford, and the Arsenal man scored after 10 minutes.

“Nketiah has done more than enough to warrant a starting spot, after Tuesday’s goal made him Leeds’ top scorer this season.”

“The situation regarding Eddie Nketiah at Leeds is one of the Championship’s most baffling. How is a player of his quality struggling for game time?

“He’s not started a league game for Leeds since August, but has scored on three occasions whilst coming off the bench in the Championship.

“Patrick Bamford has been leading the line for Leeds but he’s not scored since Nketiah last started a game, and I think it’s time that Bielsa realised that Bamford won’t win him games.

“Nketiah showed everyone his class when he scored a hat-trick for England U21’s last month and for me, it’s an absolute no-brainer that Bamford should be dropped for Nketiah on Saturday.”
