Nottingham Forest winger Gboly Ariyibi is poised to leave the Reds to rejoin former club Chesterfield on a loan deal.

Whilst the transfer window is now shut for all EFL sides, as the Spireites are now in the National League they can still bring in new players.

And, the Nottingham Post have revealed that Ariyibi is set to link up with Martin Allen's men, who ended a six-game losing streak with a goalless draw against Dover on Saturday.

Once the deal is finalised, it will see the 23-year-old return to a club he previously spent three years at.

It was his form for Chesterfield that saw the Reds make a move for Ariyibi, although things haven't really gone to plan since he moved to the City Ground as he is still to play a game for Forest despite signing in 2017.

Here, our writers take a look at whether the proposed move is something that will suit all parties...

Gary Hutchinson

This smacks of poor planning. Ariybi could have secured a League Two loan move, surely?

Now he's going to the National League, where at least he will get game time. I'm not being critical of the level, but he could and should be playing at least one step higher.

Alfie Burns

It’s a move that makes sense.

Ariyibi clearly isn’t in Karanka’s plans for the season, with the Spaniard having a huge squad to choose from.

He needs to be playing regular football and linking back up with a club he is familiar with will help Ariyibi settle quickly.

Chris Gallagher

It's certainly a good move for Chesterfield!

They've landed a player who has spent the past few season on loan in League One and someone who shone for them in the Football League.

As for Ariyibi, it means he gets first-team football, which is vital, although you do wonder why he wasn't allowed to leave to a league club.
