Gaetano Berardi is expected to start at left-back for Leeds United against Ipswich Town at the weekend, but former Whites striker Noel Whelan is concerned about his ability to play in that position.

Berardi is expected to make only his third start for Leeds since returning from a four-month injury lay-off, due to knee injuries to Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas.

Whelan has told Football Insider that he is unvoiced at Berardi starting the match at left-back, due to his reliance on his right foot and is concerned that he may struggle in that position.

So, is Whelan right? Should Leeds fans be worried about Berardi starting the game at left-back?

Toby Wilding

"I can see why this would be a concern for Leeds.

"Berardi hasn't had a huge amount of game time this season, so could be lacking match sharpness heading into the most important stretch of the season against some of the most dangerous and motivated attacks in the league.

"That being said, there seems to be little alternative in that position right now for Leeds, and there is no doubt that Berardi will do all he can to get Leeds back to the Premier League."

George Brooks

"I think this is a concern for Leeds.

"Berardi is a good defender and will be prepared to give everything for the team, but he is not a natural left-back. It will be interesting to see how he copes in this position.

"The good news for Leeds is that Dallas is expected to return for the play-offs."

Chris Gallagher

"It's a massive worry.

"Marcelo Bielsa encourages attacking football and there is a lot of responsibility on the full-backs to get up and down.

"That doesn't suit Berardi and the fact he would have to cut in every time from the left flank disrupts the balance. He's the only real option they've got but so I feel for Bielsa but it will hurt the team."
