Charlton boss, Lee Bowyer, has come out and said that he will be staying at the club, after speaking with journalist, Richard Cawley.

It was reported by the Mirror that Bowyer was now Huddersfield's number one target for the job after former boss Jan Siewert was sacked having picked up just one point from his first three league games.

However, it appears that Bowyer will be staying at the Addicks for the foreseeable future. He'll be hoping that he can keep up their unbeaten start to the season after the international break.

Here we discuss the topic in a FLW Six Point Opinion....

How significant is this?

"It's huge for Charlton and their season.

"We all know what kind of problems that Bowyer has had in the past with owner Roland Duchâtelet, and I'm sure many Addicks would have been worried that he might jump ship.

"After the bright start to the season that they've had, confidence seems to be through the roof around the place, so why would you leave? It's a massive statement from Bowyer and one that could push them on and help them to achieve great things over the coming season."

What does Bowyer's current contract looking like?

"In the summer, Bowyer signed a one-year contract extension that will see him through the current season.

"The contract probably isn't as secure as he'd like and he would probably have wanted a longer deal. However, after the rumours that he'd rejected it, Charlton fans and Duchâtelet will just be thankful that he's still at the club."

Would he have been wise to move to Huddersfield?

"Simply put, no. It's a team that have failed to win this season, but overall the club is lacking confidence or belief that they can turn that around.

"The Terriers have got so used to losing that they now expect it every time that they walk out on the pitch. Bowyer has something great going on with Charlton, and they're sitting second in the league.

"No one would expect him to leave, and it wouldn't have been wise for his personal career either."

What will this mean for supporters of Charlton?

"It will have done them the world of good to have heard Bowyer say that. It'll be a sense of relief having seen the odds tumble at different points.

"After Saturday's superb victory at Reading, it looks like the club is as one and this news will have boosted them even more.

"The supporters have stuck with the side through a lot over past years, so knowing the manager is committed will be fantastic to hear."

Can he help Charlton challenge at the top end after a positive start?

"It's too early to say at the current minute. They have a team morale, and confidence that is unbelievable. After the news that Bowyer's head hasn't been turned, the players will be feeling happy.

"The performances that they've displayed have been exceptional, but it's far too early to tell whether it's a spring from last season's promotion or whether it's an early charge for the Premier League."

Finally, how does Bowyer's September look?

"Charlton have three games this month, starting off with a home game against Birmingham City. The Addicks will fancy their chances once more in what is another winnable game for Bowyer's side, they then travel to relegation threatened Wigan in search of three points.

"The Addicks end the month with a mouth-watering clash against Leeds United at the Valley, with both sides currently sat in the top three of the Championship.

"I think we'll learn a lot more about Bowyer's side in this coming month."
