Leeds have announced that Lewie Coyle has extended his loan spell with League One side Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the season.

Coyle has impressed in his loan spell with the League One club this season, and has been a regular in Joey Barton's side.

The right-back, who also spent last season on loan with Fleetwood, initially signed on a six month loan deal this season before Leeds opted to extend his stay with Barton's men.

Many would have predicted that Leeds would have opted to recall Coyle this month after the injury crisis that has struck Bielsa's side for most of the campaign.

Luke Ayling has only just returned to action following an injury lay-off, whilst Gaetano Berardi has also been absent with a hamstring problem.

So the decision to extend Coyle's loan deal has certainly raised some eyebrows.

I think it's a wise move to loan him out.

Ayling, Dallas and Berardi won't be missing all season and they are all ahead of Coyle in the pecking order, whilst Jamie Shackleton has done well when given the chance too.

So, in the bigger picture, in terms of the remainder of the season and Coyle's own career, staying at Fleetwood and playing regularly makes much more sense.

George Harbey

I think it’s a massive mistake by Leeds.

Coyle has been impressive for Fleetwood this season and could be of real use to Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Leeds are short of defenders and it could be a huge error.

Jacob Potter

This is a surprising decision by Leeds.

They have an injury crisis this season, and they need experienced depth in their side if they are to challenge for the Championship title.

Coyle would have been more than good enough to be part of the Leeds first-team this season, and could have potentially forced Luke Ayling out of the starting XI if he was given the chance.
