Despite his side being rooted to the bottom of the Championship with only a single point from five rounds of Championship fixtures, Stoke City manager has allowed Austrian right-back Moritz Bauer to move to Celtic on a season-long loan, as confirmed on the Potters' club website.

The deal for the former Grasshoppers Zurich and Rubin Kazan defender contains an option for the Scottish champions to buy him next summer, after Bauer fell out of favour at the bet365 Stadium.

Bauer becomes Celtic's sixth senior signing of the summer and will compete with fellow new recruit Hatem Abd Elhamed for the right-back spot.

So is Bauer a good addition at Celtic Park?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think so.

“The Austrian had fallen out of favour at Stoke under Nathan Jones but put in some solid performances during his first six months at the club.

“Having not featured this season, he will likely be hungry to prove himself at his new club, which should only benefit Celtic.

“The Scottish champions needed to add a new right-back following the exit of Kieran Tierney and Bauer is exactly that.

“As the 27-year-old is joining on loan it's a low risk deal for them.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I think it’s a great signing for Celtic, I can see him doing really well there. He’s experienced, he’s played at a decent level and he’s got international honours too.

“I’m baffled as to why he’s not playing for Stoke if I’m honest. They’re not doing well and yet he’s farmed out on loan. It’s a bit like the Bryan Oviedo situation at Sunderland last season; a top player is sidelined for not apparent reason.

“I’m concerned for Stoke already. I think they went backward sunder Nathan Jones and that’s continued despite him having a pre-season. I wonder if he looks up at Luton with a bit of envy.

“The grass isn’t always greener, but for Bauer I think it’s definitely better up at Parkhead that milling around Stoke’s reserves.”

George Brooks

"Bauer did well when he first arrived at Stoke, but he fell out of favour under Gary Rowett and really struggled to make an impact last season.

"The defender will be hoping to get his career back on track with Celtic, but I'm not convinced he'd be a good signing.

"He hasn't played that much football recently and I'm not convinced he'd be an improvement on the options they already have.

"He's a decent defender and he's good going forward, but he'll have to do well to make an impact for Celtic."
