Nottingham Forest have confirmed that defender Joe Worrall has committed his long-term future to the club, by putting pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2024, it has been confirmed on the official club website.
Worrall, 23, is a product of the club’s youth set-up, making 67 appearances since making his senior debut back in 2016 and has told the club website: “I am over the moon. It is something that I have wanted to do for a couple of months so to get it finally done has given me peace of mind until the end of the season. I now have one thing to focus on and that is to win as many games as possible.”
So is it a wise move by Forest to tie Worrall down to a new long-term contract?
“It’s a great move for all concerned.
“Worrall has been one of Forest’s best players this season so he fully deserves a new deal for his performances. And, the chance to stay at his local club for the years to come will have appealed to the player, so he will be delighted his future is sorted.
“Additionally, it made sense from a financial perspective too. The centre-back was approaching the final 18 months of his previous deal and there had been Premier League interest, so this protects Forest’s asset.
“Now it’s all sorted, Worrall can focus on helping the Reds to promotion and he will hope to spend the majority of his new contract as a top-flight player.”

“This is without doubt a fantastic bit of business by Forest as Worrall’s displays this season have been extremely impressive.
“Since returning to the City Ground following a loan spell at Rangers, the defender has emerged as a mainstay in Lamouchi’s starting eleven which has allowed him to help the Reds achieve a positive start to the campaign.
“Having now committed his future to Forest, Worrall will be determined to play a key role in helping the club in their goal to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
“Blessed with an abundance of talent, there is no reason why the 23-year-old cannot go on to thrive at the highest level for the Reds if they do indeed end their top-flight hiatus in May.”
“A good bit of business that certainly makes sense for Forest as it ties one of their key players to a new long-term contract.
“Worrall’s overall game has come on leaps and bounds this term and is fast becoming one of the best defenders in the Championship after a string of solid performances at the heart of the team’s backline.
“It comes as no surprise that he didn’t hesitate to commit his future to a club that has shown such good faith to him since he came through the club’s academy system.
“It is clear that Sabri Lamouchi is already making arrangements to tie down the core of Forest squad. so therefore it wouldn’t be surprising to see more players signing new deals over the coming weeks and months at the City Ground.”
