Stoke City have joined the race for Rangers winger Jordan Jones, according to a report from the Daily Record

Jones joined Rangers as a free agent in the summer but has seen his opportunities limited so far this season.

The 25-year-old has made just 10 appearances and not featured for the Scottish club since September.

It appears Stoke have sensed an opportunity as the Daily Record has reported that they're set to make a move for Jones.

Michael O'Neill's side may face some competition, however, as Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough are also understood to be keen on a move for the Northern Irishman.

So, would he be a good signing for the Potters?

Luke Phelps

"Jones began his career in England with Middlesbrough but after failing to succeed at The Riverside, and in various loan spells to the likes of Cambridge United and Hartlepool United, he headed north of the border to try his luck in Scotland and landed at Kilmarnock.

“A lot of players who can’t quite make it in England at first go to Scotland, better their trade and then seek a move back across the border and that’s exactly what Jones can do. He joined Rangers in the summer but under Gerrard, the 25-year-old has barely featured this season.

“He’s a winger with enough strength and speed to adapt to the demands of the Championship. Goals is something that Stoke have been pretty low on all season, and Jones has scored 11 in over 100 games for Kilmarnock.

“It’s not a record that set Scotland alight, but he seems like a player who, with an arm around the shoulder, could go on to do really well. O’Neill is that type of manager, so yes, I think Jones would be a good signing but as ever, especially with players who’ve been playing in Scottish football, it’s a gamble.”

"I think this could be a smart bit of business by the Potters.

“It’s no secret that they need strength in depth across all areas of their squad in this month’s transfer window.

“Jones would add something in the wide areas and could be the ideal player to challenge the likes of James McLean for their starting spot this season.

“Jones hasn’t been given much of a chance with Gerrard’s Rangers either, which will mean that he’ll be keen to prove himself in senior football at the earliest of opportunities.

“Stoke need players that are hungry to showcase their talent and I think Jones fits that criteria perfectly.

“They face a stiff battle to land his signature though and Stoke need to do everything they can to come to an agreement with the Scottish giants."

Ethan van Ristell

"The 25-year-old winger has been subject to interest from a handful of Championship clubs, including former side Middlesbrough, therefore Stoke face a fight to land their target.

"A major advantage for the Potters is that O'Neill knows Jones well as the winger represents Northern Ireland internationally. He possesses pace and is an excellent dribbler, which should mean he can succeed in the Championship.

"The bad news is that Jones has had a tough time with injuries this season for Rangers and that poses a risk for Stoke.

"With players ahead of him in the Rangers team at present, a loan move represents a good deal for both parties. Despite that, it remains to be seen if he can gain a starting place if he moves to the bet365 Stadium."
