‘It’s a gamble’, ‘Sign him up’ – Plenty of Bristol City fans react to journalist’s transfer reveal on 27-y/o

It’s been a frustrating season for Benik Afobe, as he continues to step up his recovery from a lengthy injury lay-off with Bristol City.

The on-loan Stoke City man has made just six appearances in total this season for Lee Johnson’s side, as they target a top-six finish in the Championship.

Afobe picked up an ACL injury back in September, and is only just edging closer to a return to action, and could be involved when their fixtures return.

In a recent Q&A for Bristol Live, journalist Gregor MacGregor revealed that Bristol City will have to stump up £6million to sign Afobe permanently in the summer transfer window.

“Benik Afobe is – according to our sources – around £6m to turn permanent.

“To put those fees into some context: Famara Diedhiou was a club record when he signed, for a fee of £5.3m made public by the club.”

Plenty of Bristol City fans took to Facebook on the ‘Bristol City Till I Die’ and ‘Bristol City BS3’ page to issue their thoughts on Afobe’s price tag heading towards the summer.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below….

Cameron Starr: “Yes already found his place in the squad everyone loves him and he will easily settle in Bristol.”

Simon Turner: “It’s worth buying him as you get two players for the price of one. Gets Palmer playing as well.”

Dave Lloyd: “£6m for a player with ACL history like his, it’s a gamble.”

Neil Skuse: “I would be stunned if Bristol City decided to make Afobe’s loan spell a permanent one, as there are better and less injury-prone players out there in the transfer market heading into the summer. My take is Afobe for six million is a steel sign him up.”

Kevin Green: “Yes, yes, yes definitely.”

Tony Sweet: “No. Injury prone.”

Shaun Chilcott: “Yes be a good price and a very good addition to our squad.”

Colin James: “Sign him up and don’t think twice, at 27 he’s coming into his prime.”
