Striving for automatic promotion once the new League One season comes around, it is set to be another big year for Darren Moore and his Sheffield Wednesday team.

However, before the new campaign kicks off, summer recruitment takes precedent, with lots of situations yet to be determined at the Yorkshire club.

One player who has been linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday is Jayden Stockley, as per a report from the Sheffield Star, with the 28-year-old netting 20 times in 38 appearances last season for Charlton Athletic.

Assessing the potential move, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer told FLW: "It's whether they believe that he can play in the championship because it's going to require a fee. I think there'll be able to pay his wages. But he's going to want a length of contract.

"So, you don't want to take a player on three or four-year contracts if you don't believe he can play in the championship, even though you want to get up.

"And, it's a gamble."

The verdict

Stockley proved to be a consistent source of goals for the Addicks last season, striking an excellent working relationship with Conor Washington.

The 28-year-old's physical presence and excellent link-up play makes him an interesting option who could work very well next to the likes of Josh Windass and Lee Gregory, whilst he would be a focal point for the excellent delivery of Marvin Johnson.

As Palmer says, the immediate ambition at Sheffield Wednesday is promotion, so if they are to offer a lengthy contract, then they need to be sure that they trust Stockley in the higher division.

Not quite getting it right at Preston North End, there is certainly scope for Stockley to succeed in the second tier, therefore a move for the 28-year-old would make sense.
