The transfer merry-go-round is in full swing at Birmingham City with Pep Clotet considering a move for Peterborough United forward Marcus Maddison, in a deal that could see the Blues offer goalkeeper David Stockdale as part of the deal, according to a report by The Sun.

It is reported that the Posh are yet to accept a bid for Maddison, but that has not deterred the Blues who are keen to land the 26-year-old, who has made 249 appearances for Darren Ferguson's side since joining from Gateshead in 2014 and whose contract is set to expire in the summer.

So would a cash plus Stockdale deal be good business for Birmingham as they look to land Maddison?

We discuss.........

Kris Smith

“It’s an interesting player to add to the deal, given that Stockdale would have to drop down a division and will most likely be keen to remain on his very high wages at Peterborough.

“Stockdale was part of the influx of players brought in on very high wages and has not helped the club at all, so it’s no surprise to see Birmingham trying to shift him any way they can.

“Maddison would be a great signing for the Blues who don’t have an awful lot of depth in attacking midfield, let alone an end-product from that position, so he would certainly help ease the burden on the strikers.

“I don’t think that Peterborough will take the bait of Stockdale in the deal purely due to the finances of having the goalkeeper on their books whilst still in League One, which is a huge portion of their budget gone on a player who doesn’t replace Maddison.”

Phil Spencer

“Birmingham are right to do everything that they can to sign Marcus Maddison.

“The attacking midfielder has been outstanding for Peterborough this season and has been key to their promotion push.

"Maddison is clearly capable of playing in the second tier and whoever gets his signature will have done very well.

“The only surprise is that it’s taken him this long to find his way to the Championship.

“David Stockdale appears to be surplus to requirements under Pep Clotet and so if he can be used as a makeweight to get a deal done then it could be beneficial for both parties.”

Jacob Potter

"Stockdale isn’t getting the game time he needs with Birmingham at the moment, and I would be surprised if he was with the Blues by the end of the January transfer window.

"He’s behind Lee Camp in the pecking order, and it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before he departs the club.

"Maddison is a player that can make things happen, and I think he’s fully deserving of a move to a Championship club.

"He already has ten goals and eight assists this season, and he’ll been keen to replicate that with a new club in the future.

"If he can hit the ground running, then Birmingham will soon find themselves climbing the Championship table.

"It’s a deal that makes sense for both parties involved here."
