Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook is looking to link up with a former player from his time managing Portsmouth, with a move for Pompey winger Jamal Lowe on the verge of being completed, as per Portsmouth News.

Lowe was brought to Fratton Park by Cook back in 2017 and went on to score 25 goals in 103 appearances in all competitions, 15 of which came last season in 47 League One appearances, as Pompey narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs.

So would Lowe prove a good signing for the Latics?

We discuss........

George Harbey

“I think it would be a massive coup for Wigan if they were to land Jamal Lowe, given the calibre of teams that have been linked with him over the course of the summer.

“The Latics are in need of a quick, agile, strong player on the left flank, and Lowe will flourish in Paul Cook’s system at the DW Stadium.

“He would be playing for a manager that knows how to get the best out of him, and that can only bode well for the season ahead.

“This would be a class addition for Wigan, and a big blow for Pompey all the same.”

Ned Holmes

“Absolutely, there has been rumoured to be interest in the forward from multiple clubs this summer and for good reason.

“The winger scored 15 league goals and provided nine assists for Kenny Jackett’s side last season and was integral player in their play-off run.

“He deserved a chance to step up to the next level and it seems as though he is going to get it under Paul Cook.

“With the exit of Nick Powell, the Latics lost last season’s joint top-scorer this summer and the addition of Lowe should go some way to replacing that firepower.”

George Dagless

"It'll be a cracking buy.

"Lowe is an excellent winger with plenty of tricks and pace and I think we'll see him quickly become a key man for the Latics.

"He's obviously got the attributes to make him a hit in the Championship and with Paul Cook capable of setting up an attacking side, Lowe should benefit from this approach.

"It's his next step forward in his career and so far he has worked through the leagues in style, I'd not be surprised if he did the same this season for the Latics.

"Pompey, meanwhile, have done well in the window to sign players that should soften the blow of him leaving."
