West Brom youngster Tim Iroegbunam is edging closer to signing for rivals Aston Villa ahead of the 2021/22 league campaign, according to Fooball Insider.
The Birmingham Mail have reported that Iroegbunam’s arrival at Villa Park will be announced in the coming days, which will come as a frustrating update for West Brom’s supporters, after a six-figure bid was accepted.
This comes after Joseph Masi revealed that the youngster had turned down a new contract to remain at the Hawthorns, with a move to Aston Villa seemingly close.
Speaking in an interview with West Brom News, former Baggies forward Kevin Phillips labelled Iroegbunam’s departure as a concern for the Championship side.
“I’ve said all along when they let go of your players, it’s a concern.
“Why are they leaving? Why are they not given an opportunity at their own club? With West Brom going down, he could have been a player that was useful. He’s going to Aston Villa but he’s not going to be involved in the first-team.
“I don’t know if there’s more to it but it concerns me a little bit when players are leaving your club to join another club where they won’t get an opportunity.”
West Brom are set to take on AFC Bournemouth in their opening match of the 2021/22 season, in what is likely to be a closely-fought battle between both teams at the Vitality Stadium on Friday 6th August.

You have to agree with Phillips here.
West Brom will be wanting to progress as a club, and that includes keeping their brightest young players at the Hawthorns for the foresseable future.
But that isn’t going to be the case with Iroegbunam, with the youngster set for a move to Aston Villa, which will be hugely frustrating for the Baggies supporters, who would have been eager to see him force his way into Valerien Ismael’s plans for the first-team.
It will be a concern moving forwards for West Brom if they can’t keep their brightest talents at the club.
