‘It’s a catch 22 situation’ – The Harvey Barnes dilemma for 57-y/o: The verdict

West Bromwich Albion are having a fine season under manager Darren Moore taking 17 points from a possible 21 in their last seven outings.

A player excelling under Moore is 20-year-old midfielder Harvey Barnes who has scored five goals and made two assists in 12 Championship fixtures, on loan at the Hawthorns from Leicester City.

For Claude Puel manager of his parent club Leicester, the decision he must be considering based on the youngster’s form, is whether the player should be recalled or see out his loan at the Baggies.

We discuss…..

Jay Taylor

It’s a catch 22 situation. If he stays at West Brom he is learning and growing as a player if he returns to Leicester and does not produce the form he is showing now then he will be dropped and will play fewer games.

It depends if Leicester are struggling or they are having a solid season but Harvey Barnes is certainly giving Claude Puel a headache as to think about recalling him.

If I were the Foxes boss, I would recall him in January and give him a chance – on current form he would slip into the pace of the Premier League with ease.

Gary Hutchinson

Leave him there, for now.

What is six more months of regular football going to matter?

To Barnes, it matters a lot but to Puel it makes little difference.

He’s thriving now, learning and developing. It’s a great place for him to be.

George Dagless

I’d bring him back to see what he’s got.

I can’t understand Leicester not using him more, he is clearly a very talented young footballer.

Clearly, Puel is slightly reluctant so with that in mind it’s probably best to leave him at the Hawthorns.

Jacob Potter

I would definitely not recall Barnes. He needs a full season of regular playing time at a high-standard of football.

West Brom are flying at the moment and Barnes is pivotal to that success this season and if he was to be recalled he wouldn’t be first choice at Leicester this season so his development is best served out on loan this season.
