Blackpool recently announced the signing of Leeds United defender Paudie O'Connor on a season-long loan.

The Irishman recently signed a new long-term deal at Elland Road but is evidently not in Marcelo Bielsa's immediate plans as the Argentinian looks to build a squad capable of winning promotion.

But Leeds have been slow moving in the transfer window so far and have only managed to secure the signing of Lewis Baker on loan from Chelsea.

The Whites do not appear to have a new centre-back lined up to fill O'Connor's void either.

The club were strongly linked with Swansea centre-back Kyle Bartley but the former Leeds loanee appears to be on his way to West Brom.

So is O'Connor's loan move to Blackpool a good move all round?

We discuss.

Alfie Burns

Blackpool will certainly benefit from O’Connor, whilst the young centre-back will get a chance of regular football.

In terms of Leeds, they will benefit in the long-term, but right now, they need a body in to replace O’Connor, as they look desperately short of options at centre-back.

George Dagless

It's good for the player and Blackpool but I don't know how good it is for Leeds at the moment.

They're short on centre-halves and if replacements are not signed this move will seem a bit premature.

Even so, O'Connor and Blackpool should benefit nicely.

Chris Gallagher

Yes, a great move.

He's not ready for a full season in the Championship and this is far better for his development than playing U23s. It's his chance to prove himself at a good standard to then come back looking to play for Leeds next year.

Jay Williams

This is perfect for Blackpool because they have lost some key men in Clark Robertson and Kelvin Mellor, while Curtis Tilt is a wanted man this summer.

Defensive reinforcements were needed and O'Connor is a top buy, with this move benefiting him in the long-term too.

I think sending O'Connor out on loan was the right decision by Leeds, but only if they now snap up a few centre-backs because Bielsa's preferred system of three at the back has the Whites looking worryingly short in the centre-half department going into the new season.

Gary Hutchinson

Absolutely, although I would have thought maybe a more secure club than Blackpool would have been a better bet.

They've been in crisis for a while now and that affected the playing staff, but if things are returning to normal then it will benefit all three parties, Leeds, Blackpool and most importantly, O'Connor.
