Paul Heckingbottom has urged Leeds United fans to be patient as his side navigate the 'uneven playing field' of the Championship.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Heckingbottom lamented the lack of parity between many of the Championship's 24 sides:

"It’s an uneven playing field,” Heckingbottom said.

“I’ve known that for a long time but it’s getting even mores o with the teams coming down and parachute payments getting even better. We’re a club who don’t benefit from those and what is it, half who do are in the Championship? In terms of budgets and finance we’re way down the pecking order but if you let that restrict you then you’ll never get anywhere."

Leeds face table-topping Wolves on Wednesday evening, a side that many other Championship clubs want investigating over Financial Fair Play regulations.

24 points separate Leeds and Wolves and anything but a win would effectively end the slim hopes Heckingbottom's side have of making a late play off surge.

Leeds are eight points outside the top six and suffered a 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough on Friday which significantly damaged their hopes of a play off spot.

Twitter was divided as to whether the call was the right one by the manager, or whether instead of focusing on other teams he should concentrate on the job in hand.
