A 2-0 win away to Bristol Rovers lifted Jack Ross's side up to within two points of Barnsley, who currently sit in second, with the Black Cats boasting a game in hand on the Tykes as well.

This weekend sees them come up against Plymouth Argyle at the Stadium of Light as they look to take the next step and break into those automatic promotion spots.

And they will do so with winger Aiden McGeady in brilliant form having scored a stunning free-kick against the Gas to continue his fine season.

That was the 32-year-old's tenth League One goal of the season, assisting five more for his teammates along the way, becoming one of his club's most important players.

In fact, he is so good that midfielder Grant Leadbitter dubbed him the most talented player he has ever played with following the win.

It is quite the claim from a player who been in the professional game for nearly 16 years, but what do writers at FLW make of it?

Chris Gallagher

"It's a big claim.

"Leadbitter has played at a very good level over the years, so McGeady has clearly made a real impact on him since he returned to Sunderland.

"However, you can understand his point. The Irishman has so much technical ability and skill and you have to remember he has played in the Champions League before in his career.

"So the quality is there and he really is far too good for League One."

Alfie Burns

"I've always rated McGeady, he's got real class.

"Obviously Leadbitter has played with some good players, so this is really high praise.

"From the outside it feels farfetched, but it's Leadbitter's opinion.

"No doubt it will fill McGeady with confidence."

Louie Chandler

"I am not sure how much substance there is to a claim like this but it is certainly very flattering for McGeady.

"He has been a star for the Black Cats this season and is really beginning to steer them towards inevitable success.

"His talent is there to be seen so it is definitely not an unreasonable claim from Leadbitter."
