‘It’s a big call for Bielsa’ – Leeds United selection dilemma ahead of Ipswich: The verdict

Leeds United have gone on a run of just two wins in nine matches and have slipped down to fourth in the Championship table.

In seven of those matches, Marcelo Bielsa has been without influential playmaker, Pablo Hernandez.

Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison has deputised valiantly in the Spaniard’s absence.

Hernandez had been heavily involved in Leeds’ scintillating start to the campaign before results tailed off while he was recovering from a hamstring injury.

Having been stuck in the treatment room, the 33-year-old was back on the bench for the Whites in last Saturday’s defeat at Blackburn.

Not long after Rovers scored what would turn out to be the winner, Hernandez was called upon and given a cameo appearance to try and salvage something from the fixture.

His introduction was to no avail, but it was a vital period on the pitch for the attacker to build up some match fitness.

Leeds host Ipswich Town on Wednesday evening, and with that said, we asked our team of FLW writers if they thought Hernandez should start for Bielsa’s side…

Jacob Potter

He should be a guaranteed starter for this one.

After his substitute appearance at the weekend, he should be replacing Tyler Roberts who has struggled for form recently.

Hernandez will be keen to recapture the sort of form he had before the injury he suffered.

Louie Chandler

Absolutely.

He is one of the division’s most creative and dangerous players and should be a guaranteed starter.

Chris Gallagher

Without a doubt.

You can understand why Bielsa didn’t want to rush him back, but if he’s fit, he starts.

It’s that simple, Hernandez is probably Leeds’ most influential player and makes such a difference to the team.

Alfie Burns

It’s a big call for Bielsa to make, as he can’t afford to rush Hernandez back.

The Spaniard is so influential at Elland Road and aggravating any injury would be a huge blow.

If he’s fit enough, he has to start, but I’m not convinced he is.
