Middlesbrough have been dealt a hugely frustrating double injury blow, with Dael Fry and Daniel Ayala set to miss the remainder of the Championship season.

Tony Pulis has relied heavily on a defensive setup this season at the Riverside Stadium, with Fry and Ayala a big part of Boro’s usual five-man defence.

Now, an update from Boro’s official website has confirmed that Pulis is expecting his side’s play-off push to continue without the pair, who are likely to miss the remainder of the season.

Fry has torn his hamstring in training and is facing 12 weeks out, whilst Ayala was stretchered from the field against Hull City and has serious ligament damage.

The pair now join George Friend on the sidelines, meaning that Pulis will be without key defensive personnel at a crucial stage of the Championship season. The play-offs are still within reach, but this is a blow for Boro.
