Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will have the task of preparing his Whites squad for the coming campaign well under-way, with pre-season just a matter of weeks away.

Bielsa has some big decisions to make regarding his current squad, as he assesses who amongst their number is capable of taking the next step and achieving the automatic promotion the Elland Road faithful crave.

Former United striker Noel Whelan has suggested to Football Insider that young striker Ryan Edmonson has something unique to offer the side, and could be destined to make a big impact next season.

So is Whelan right in his assessment of Edmondson?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

“I think his role in the first team will increase, and he will be involved throughout the first team.

"A lot depends on how he starts. If he can chip in with a few goals or impressive cameo appearances early on then Bielsa will trust him more and we could see him begin to start games.

“He is a natural finisher and has a lot of potential. He will have to learn and adapt very quickly to fit into Bielsa’s style.”

Toby Wilding

"I think he's right.

"Leeds have had a habit of giving young players from their academy the chance at first team football, and Edmondson could be the next to really benefit from that.

"His record at academy level suggests he is ready to be given that chance properly, and you feel it would go down well with the Elland Road faithful if it came to him."

Louie Chandler

"It'll come down to pre-season.

"Last season showed that it is a time where Bielsa is more than happy to wipe the slate clean with his players and if Edmondson can shine then there is no reason he cannot have a special campaign.

"Neither Roofe or Bamford have nailed down the spot for next season either so Edmondson will be looking to sneak in."
