Nottingham Forest have won their last three matches in the Sky Bet Championship and are starting to build some momentum again.
The Reds have made an encouraging start to the season under Sabri Lamouchi, but many feel that the Frenchman will need to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.
Forest have already been linked with several new players this month, but in order for the club to make new signings, it’s possible that a few players will need to depart the City Ground too.
There are some players who have clearly failed to make an impression on Lamouchi and allowing them to leave the club would make sense for all parties.
With this in mind, here are THREE players it would make sense for Forest to shift this month…
Claudio Yacob joined Forest on a free transfer last summer, but he’s struggled to make an impact since he arrived at the City Ground. The 32-year-old has made 16 appearances for Forest, but he hasn’t featured for the club since Lamouchi took charge.
The defensive midfielder doesn’t appear to be in his manager’s plans and with the likes of Samba Sow, Ben Watson, Alfa Semdeo and Ryan Yates ahead of him in the pecking order, it’s very difficult to see that changing.
With this in mind, he’ll surely want to leave Forest this month and find a club where he can get regular game time.
His contract at the City Ground is due to expire in the summer, so it would make sense for Forest to try to cash in on him this month, rather than let him go for free at the end of the season.
Zach Clough hasn’t played for Forest since January 2018 and like Yacob, is another player who doesn’t appear to be in Lamouchi’s plans.
Forest have got some talented attacking players in their squad and some promising youngsters coming through, so it’s hard to see Clough getting chances in the team.
He’s spent time out on loan at two different clubs since the last time he played for Forest, but he’s struggled to make an impact on both occasions.
It would make sense for him to leave the City Ground this month and it would allow him the chance to get his career back on track. His departure would also free up additional space in the squad for some new additions this window.
Costel Pantilimon was an important player for Forest last season and kept 15 clean sheets in the Championship, but he hasn’t featured for the club since Lamouchi replaced Martin O’Neill in charge in the summer.
The 32-year-old hasn’t even made the bench this season and doesn’t appear to be in his manager’s plans at all. Even if Aro Muric were to leave the club this month, it’s still difficult to see Pantilimon replacing Brice Samba as the first-choice goalkeeper.

He’s still a good goalkeeper though and has got plenty of experience, so it would make sense for Forest to try and cash in on him during this transfer window and the money they get for him can go towards other signings.
