Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has identified Brentford goalkeeper Luke Daniels as his potential number one at Elland Road, according to Football Insider, with the future of current number one Kiko Casilla and deputy Bailey Peacock-Farrell still to be resolved.

The former Manchester United academy graduate has a wealth of experience, having had spells at Scunthorpe United, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, Southend United, Bristol Rovers, West Brom, Motherwell and Rochdale.

So would Daniels be a good signing for Leeds?

We discuss........

Tommy Joyce

"With the future of both Kiko Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrell up in the air, Leeds might need to replace both of them, and Daniels would be an appropriate substitute keeper.

"While having two keepers of similar standards can be beneficial as it pushes either keeper harder for their place, it can cause disruption for either's morale, as seen with this situation.

"Having an experienced number two may be the way to go for Leeds, as then they can have some consistency in goal without causing any issues.

"He had a good spell at Scunthorpe between 2015-2017 and is capable as a back-up at this level, but wouldn't be a starter."

Louie Chandler

"It'd certainly be a sensible signing.

"Daniels has long been a competent goalkeeper in the EFL and that is probably just what Leeds need between the sticks next season.

"Bailey Peacock-Farrell will almost certainly be given another chance but the future of Kiko Casilla remains unclear so signing a low cost, low risk goalkeeper like Daniels makes a lot of sense.

"Do I think he will be starting? No. But he will provide competition without denting their summer budget much."

Alfie Burns

“With what Leeds currently have on their books, Daniels isn’t an upgrade, but the link suggests to me that one of Kiko Casilla or Bailey Peacock-Farrell could be on the move.

“But even then, if that’s the case, I think Leeds need better than Daniels if they are to get where they want to be in the Championship’s promotion race.

“Of course, the Brentford stopper is a good option and Leeds saw first-hand at Elland Road just how good he can be, but you do feel that a promotion-winning side would want a more household name.

“I’d be seriously considering giving Casilla another chance at this stage.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Again, Leeds are linked with a player I wouldn’t have considered for them.

“Last season they were unpredictable with their keepers, but this is yet another link coming from nowhere.

“Daniels has good pedigree, having been with Manchester United and West Brom as a youngster, but his experience since then is questionable.

“Is a run in goal for Scunthorpe United enough to earn him a place in the Leeds set up?

“They don’t need a back up keeper, they have BPF for that, so surely they need a number one? I don’t think that’s Luke Daniels.”
