New Reading boss Jose Gomes will be under no doubt of the task ahead of him with his side only managing one point from a possible 12 over the festive period, and second from bottom in the Championship five points adrift from safety.

At least the transfer window gives the Royals boss the chance to freshen up his squad and with players like midfielder Kevin McDonald possibly looking for a move away from Fulham, there are opportunities for him to strengthen.

McDonald though is drawing admiring glances from the SPFL though, with Rangers keen on signing the player according to the Daily Record.

So should Reading rival Rangers in the race to sign McDonald?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

Definitely.

The Royals have proven to be very short in midfield and what they do have has been wholey unconvincing.

It'd be the perfect start to the January window.

George Dagless

Yes.

Reading need experienced players that are confident on the ball and ready for a battle.

McDonald ticks plenty of boxes but beating Rangers will be a tough task.

Gary Hutchinson

If they could, it would make sense.

McDonald played plenty of times for Fulham last season and knows the level.

Reading need solid professionals, players they can rely on to perform every week under immense pressure.

If there’s the slightest possibility, this needs to be sorted out.

Alfie Burns

It’d be exceptional business for any Championship club, particularly Reading.

McDonald is a classy player at this level and Reading have major problems that he’d help to solve.

However, surely he would do a job for a side in top-six contention.
