Derby County manager Frank Lampard is considering taking Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot on loan for the remainder of the season, according to a report in the Sun on Sunday (January 13, Page 59).

Lampard is looking for competition for current number one Scott Carson and with Elliot not in the picture at St James' Park, a move away looks very much on the cards.

So would Elliot be a good addition to the Derby squad?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“It has been topic of discussion amongst Derby fans for a little while, about the continued inclusion of Scott Carson in the Derby goal.

“Rob Elliott is just as experienced as the one-time England international and could be a fresh option between the sticks to shake things up a little for Frank Lampard’s side.

“I wouldn’t be against this signing and think it could well work out, even if it only adds more competition for places and makes Carson work harder to keep his place in the side.”

Louie Chandler

"I think so.

"It is possible that they have become over-reliant on Carson and the clash with Leeds especially showed that this might be a bad idea.

"He struggled with a few basics and bringing in some more intense competition could give him the kick he needs."

Gary Hutchinson

“I find it surprising they’re looking for a new keeper.

“I’ve not been too disappointed with Carson myself, but then again he’s not getting any younger.

“This could be Lampard thinking to the future, if so there’s value in a switch.

“Although having said that, the 32-year-old has only played 200 games in his career and is sure to be reserve as he has been almost everywhere.”

Jacob Potter

"It'd be the best move for both parties here.

"Elliott is certain to be heading for the exit door at Newcastle and Derby are in need of a goalkeeper to challenge Scott Carson for his starting spot.

"The shot-stopper would be an excellent addition for any Championship side, but Derby could be the perfect move for him for the remainder of the season."
