Southampton fans will be forgiven for having a spring in their step this morning, following their first derby win at Fratton Park in 35 years in the 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

It will not only be the defeat, but the manner of the defeat that will hurt the Pompey faithful and will heap the pressure on manager Kenny Jackett who is already in the spotlight following a poor start to their League One season.

So was the heavy defeat at the hands of the Saints, the final nail in Jackett's coffin at Pompey?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"It'd be harsh if this decided his fate.

"Portsmouth were always likely to struggle against the Saints. They are two leagues above them afterall. So I would be surprised if this was the straw that broke the camels back.

"I do, however, think that a change is coming and anything other than a convincing win against Bolton on Saturday could be it for him."

Ned Holmes

“I don’t think it is the final nail but I think it has put him on very, very thin ice.

“It’s unfortunate because Pompey looked in the game in the first-half and had the better of the early chances but eventually Southampton’s Premier League class shone through.

“Losing heaving to a team two leagues above you is not the end of the world but I think their current league position likely is for the club hierarchy.

“Portsmouth travel to Bolton on Saturday and despite the Trotters being fresh off their first win of the season, you would imagine a loss in that game will spell the end of his tenure."

"It's a penultimate one I think.

"At the end of the day Southampton are a Premier League side and played a strong team last night, I don't think you can sack him on the back of such a defeat.

"However, they now have to get their league form on track and failure to do so in the next game or two will surely spell the end for the Pompey boss.

"It's at a stage now where Jackett simply has to get wins on the board and fast."
