West Brom manager Darren Moore has identified Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy as his first choice replacement for loanee Harvey Barnes following his recall to Leicester City.
Newcastle United though will not let Murphy out on loan, until they have a suitable replacement lined up as has been reported in the Express & Star.
So would Murphy be the ideal replacement for Barnes?
“Yes, it’d be great business.
“Losing Barnes was a bitter blow but Murphy has similar qualities and it would be a coup for the Baggies.
“He has the same direct style and a lot of pace, which the side need.”
“Not perfect, no.
“He’s not exactly like for like, but he’s a good option.
“He’s got more experience, but in my mind he isn’t quite as good.”
“It’s the best alternative.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t think we’ll see someone of Barnes’ quality join West Brom for a few years – he was that good!
“But Murphy is a good signing at Championship level and would certainly do a job for the Baggies as they chase a return to the Premier League this season.”
“He’s a class act – and a player that will surely give West Brom that spark that’s been missing since Barnes’s departure.
“Murphy isn’t getting game time at Newcastle, and with Bakary Sako heading to Palace, West Brom have a gap in their side they must fill to keep up their promotion hopes.
“It would be a shrewd bit of business by Darren Moore and one that could well be seen as a masterstroke.”
