Sunderland manager Jack Ross has a decision to make, after the club's bid to sign Kilmarnock full-back Greg Taylor was rejected, with the Black Cats' offer of £750,000 falling some way short of the valuation from the SPFL side, as per Sky Sports' Keith Downie.

Ross must now decide whether to return with an improved bid for the Scottish international, or look elsewhere as he looks to bolster his defensive options.

So would Taylor be a good addition at the Stadium of Light if the Black Cats can manage to do a deal with Killie?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

“It'd be a shame if this deal didn't happen, as this looks like it could be a really good addition for the Black Cats.

“Taylor was an important player for Kilmarnock last season, contributing one goal and four assists in 41 appearances, and helped them finish third in the SPFL.

“Such were the level of his performances that he won his first Scotland cap in June.

“At just 21, if Taylor keeps developing he could be the answer at left-back for Sunderland for years to come.

George Brooks

"I think this would be a good signing for Sunderland. Greg Taylor is a decent player and he did really well for Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

"He's got a good amount of experience in Scotland and should easily be able to make an impact in League One for Sunderland.

"Jack Ross could do with some more options at left-back, having seen Bryan Oviedo and Reece James leave the Stadium of Light.

"Denver Hume is the only out-and-out left-back at Sunderland now, so it would be a smart move to strengthen in that position and Taylor seems like he'd be a good addition."

Gary Hutchinson

“I think it’d be a very good signing, but not at £3m. That’s the sort of figure a decent Championship side might pay for a left-back, but a club like Sunderland should steer well clear.

“They’ve got big crowds behind them, but their financial security is not assured; especially if they fail to go up this season.

“They gambled last year with big-money buys and it didn’t work. They would be playing with fire if they now spent this on Taylor.

“They’re thinking like a Premier League team still. They should be considering the case of Luke O’Nien, plucked from League One and as good as any player they’ve signed at the back. That’s the blueprint.”
