Stoke City's dismal start to the season continues, with the Potters bottom of the Championship with only a single point to show for seven rounds of fixtures, heaping pressure on manager Nathan Jones in his first full season in charge at the bet365 Stadium.

Even with the season only six weeks old, the Potters hierarchy are obviously considering their options with Chris Hughton in pole position to replace Jones if the board feel enough is enough, according to a report in the print edition of The Mirror football supplement (16 Sept, Page 18).

So would Hughton be a good choice to replace Jones?

We discuss........

Dean Cooke

"It'd be a brilliant appointment, a proven manager at Championship who has been fantastic in his time at different clubs.

"On more than one occasion he has been harshly fired, but he gets victories. Sometimes it's not pretty but he's able to allow a team to meet their target for a season.

"If Stoke could entice him to the club, I'd recommend that they act as fast as they can."

George Harbey

“I think that if Stoke were to replace Jones then Hughton should definitely be their number-one choice.

“He was quite harshly sacked by Brighton in my opinion, and deserved more time given that he established them as a solid Premier League side.

“He knows what it takes to get out of the Championship with Newcastle United and the Seagulls, and he is the type of manager who would go in there and sort the mess out in the dressing room.

“He would earn the respect of the players, which is something that Jones seemingly doesn’t have right now.”

George Brooks

"I think this would be a great appointment for Stoke City. Chris Hughton is a fantastic manager and he knows exactly what it takes to achieve success in the Championship.

"He's an old-school manager and he should be able to get the best out of the Stoke players.

"The Championship is an unforgiving league and if Stoke don't start to pick up a few wins soon, they could be in big trouble.

"Hughton knows exactly what it takes to achieve results and he could have what it takes to turn things around."
